the debut (1998) duo release from nels cline + devin sarno entitled "rise pumpkin rise" has finally been re-released digitally after 10 long years and is now available on iTunes. originally a limited edition 12" LP, this went out-of-print soon after its initial pressing. check it out:

devin sarno/celer's "symphony 19 : duet for improvised low end & electronics" has been edited down into 19 separate video pieces and posted on you tube. each clip has a slight sonic variation. visit the S19 channel to watch them all.

“FULL dynamics-frequency SPECTRUM" is the latest release by devin sarno (on banned production). in the works since 2004, this 15 minute ensemble recording features: vincent gallo, bobb bruno, nels cline & joseph hammer. as an exercise, FDFS was constructed from independent tracks all recorded at differing times over the course of a 2 year period. no guest musician was able to reference any previous recordings and were simply given loose guidance to aid in their contributions.

housed in a 3.5" square cardboard box (with 4 page mini booklet) this is a limited edition/hand assembled 3" CD release.

"dada dum" was a short film feature at the 2007 toronto international film festival. the score features fellow musicians jeff gauthier (violin), jessica catron (cello), the watson twins (vocals) and nels cline (guitar).

truly it is with a heavy heart that i write of the passing of guitarist & friend rod poole. i had the distinct pleasure of being able to release 2 of Rod's solo guitar CDs on my old label w.i.n. records (with partner tom grimley) in the late 1990's. the first was "the death adder" and the second was "december 96."

rod was kind enough to record some of my solo material also. one piece ("translated child") appeared on my "she is church" cd. i remember that evening so well because we were recording at the old hully gully complex just off of san fernando road in glendale, ca. unbeknownced to either of us at the time, trains ran along the tracks just outside of the complex. at one point mid-way thru the recording, a train passed and could not have created a more beautiful moment to my ears. it was a moment that really was the impetus for me to return to that same location 5 years later and begin recording my "remnant" cd.

i recall many discussions with rod about music, theory, philosophy, sun ra, miles davis, recording techniques, etc.

rod's talent and knowledge was inspiring. iam proud to have been able to release some of his incredible music. proud to have known him. proud to have collaborated with him in small ways.

a score has been completed for the short film "dada dum" directed by britt randle. sarno & randle last collaborated on his film "eve" (which can be heard on the "remnant" cd - available on iTunes.) the score features musicians jeff gauthier (violin), jessica catron (cello), the watson twins (vocals) and nels cline (guitar)

the track "laconic" has been used in a short film by director floria sigismondi entitled "post mortem bliss." there was also an original song composed along with vocalists the watson twins. the film was part of the hermès/turner classic movies series "behind the camera/the shorts circuit" which is a collection of short films playing homage to the art of film and included work from acclaimed directors: griffin dunne, peter gilbert, e. elias merhige, mario van peebles and mary sweeney.

the tracks "constant" & "laconic" (from "forward back" cd) were used in the cbs tv "micro series" "the courier" (directed by gavin bowden). the courier aired in 7 installments of 1 min or less and were made available online & via mobile (verizon c cast). the episodes also played on nyc's times square jumbotron. many thanks to gavin & cbs for their support!

"variations" is currently available thru banned production. it is a 5 minute “business card” cd format. the piece is comprised of approximately 8 previous solo recordings which have been weaved together into this final sonic configuration. it is essentially a 5 minute hyper-capsulization of well over a decade of music. “variations” comes bubblewrapped in a heat-sealed static sheild bag.
